August Flickr faves

August favorites, originally uploaded by cottagegirl1.

Hello, big photo.

It appears that I'm into granny squares, vintageness and fun colors at the moment.
There is something so neat about scrolling through your favorites and seeing a theme. Kinda makes me feel less crazy and all over the place.

photo inspiration

My Flickr faves are now total over 1,000 amazing images.
Check them out here.
The perfect spot for inspiration.

Have a great weekend everyone. I'm off to a Celtic festival with the parentals, praying I won't be in the depths of despair without my brother on Sunday and enjoying every second of our proposed 80 degree sunny weather ALL weekend. Spring is FINALLY here!

It gives me such joy and inspiration. I got lost here (especially here) for way too long yesterday. I think my creative block has so much to do with the horrid darkness of winter. I desperately miss taking pictures when I'm done with work at the end of the day....

Now, off to channel flip between the Golden Globes (red carpet ridiculousness) and 24 season premier (Jack freakin' Bauer is back).

Good TV night, amen.

Flickr, how I love you

There is something magical about Flickr. It's so full of inspiration and life and ideas. Just people with cameras who take pictures, but so much more. It's like glimpses into their lives. It's the way they see the world.
If you take pictures, you need a Flickr account. It's lets you share your fun with others! It makes you think of fun new ways to see your own life. It helps make your pictures better, too. Not to mention it's FREE. I just love it and never tire of jumping in and swimming around in it. Don' t the colors and textures just give you shivers?! Maybe it's just me, but I can't get enough of it. I'm daily inspired by its magic.

Links to these specific photos and their creators can be found HERE. They are some of my current favorites.

it changed my world

I've been thinking about doing a year wrap up post. Tried to think of what to say. Tried to think what has impacted my little world this year. Tried to think about what changed me or how I changed myself. Tried imagine who I was 1 year ago. Tried to imagine how different I am now that 365 days have just about gone by.
I'm sure there are many things. Some of those I never shared here. Many, I did. My TV addictions, my new little nephew, pictures, friends, thoughts, verses, books I've read, links I share.
It's still crazy to me that people read my ramblings. I think do this mostly for myself. I like to re-read over what I write. I like to get a glimpse into my past in a more tangible way than "oh, remember when..."
But then again, I love telling each of you things. I love knowing that someone else is going to read this too. I love that I can share something that I've found or am enjoying.
I love that each of you read. I read each and every comment you write. I count it a privilege that you take time out of your day to read something that I write. It truly means a great deal to me. The greatest compliment any artist can receive is to be validated in their form of expression.
So, in all of my thinking about the year that has gone by, I wanted to just say how much Flickr has impacted my life this year. It has enhanced my photography in ways that I know are just beginning to bubble to the surface. It changed the way I look through my viewfinder. I found many, many photographers that are constantly pushing me outside my little box of what I think a picture should be. It helped me learn Photoshop. It taught me what Actions were.
I click over there way too many times a day to see what new pieces have been uploaded. I have tons of pictures in my "fave" folder. I get giddy when a photographer I admire leaves a note on my shot. It changed my photography for the better. It's helping me discover my own style.
OK, I've rambled on way too long. Too many rabbit trails. Short version....I "heart" Flickr.

a little more

2 more things...

I posted a bunch of pictures on Flickr. See link on right ---------->
Mostly of NYC. I LOVED that trip.

A couple music finds. Zach posted today with amazing suggestions.

I immediately loved this one. "It's Not True" makes me think of a swimming in a pool surrounded by shafts of light from the sun and a million different fish of bright colors swimming by. I want to make a movie just to be able to use this song.... The rest are too good too. itunes may be getting some of my $$ tonight.

Then this one. I already like his old band, so this was a fun find.

And a couple favorites have new stuff.
Schuyler Fisk.
Cary Brothers ("Ride"is one of my all time favorite songs.)
And just because I was listening to his CD for the millionth time today.

day off

Took today off just because..... Got lots done. Spent some "valuable" time doing my own little photo shoot. I'm in love with my new hoodie. Then even more time in Photoshop. There are couple shots on Flickr. Helped my mom and brother paint his room. Drank lots of ice tea with fresh mint leaves. Mmmmm....

And got my hair choppped: It feels so wonderfully healthy and short. My hair grows super fast, so I have to enjoy it while I can. Short, little ponytails and all!!Night, night, all.

i have no pictures, but fun links that do

I love Elsie's new red color. Been dying to chop my hair. It grows super fast and is long now. Long and annoying. But advice from friends is that I should keep it long. Color may have to be the way to go. And I do enjoy a good red!

Somehow my vacation pictures never turn out this good. Of course, Tara's do. Have I mentioned in the last few posts that I am just in awe of her...

Got sucked into this site today for hours. Started here and read through to then end of 2004. Found her on Flickr. I found her by doing a search for China adoption pictures. This one came up. Her photography is so inspiring to me right now. I'm ready to take some pictures.....I think.

Exited for you, my friend! Been praying/thinking about you all day.

I had a crummy day yesterday for some reason, but this made it better. It is almost disgusting how much he makes me happy. Reminds me....I think I need to watch Garden State again....and buy season 5 of Scrubs.

I couldn't get to sleep 2 nights ago. (Inspiration struck and I was art journaling like a mad woman.) I got to watch Dave, another TV person that I have a weird obsession about. I think he is adorable. Yes, I do. See, weird.... Oh my gosh, he makes me laugh! One of my favorite things he does is "Great Moments in Presidential Speeches." This one ALWAYS makes me laugh out loud. (and no "hate" comments. I love our president.)

Finally...dun...dun...dun....da....I am going on vacation! Oh, sweet, glorious vacation (realized today I have 17 vacation days left. Sheez, louise!). Not till December though. Here's a hint as to where, and I quote my mom:
"I'm hoping Luke will love ______as much as you did your first time at 7 months old. We had a blast watching your little face light up with all the sights! Won't ever forget carrying you in the backpack and seeing your BIG bright eyes."
Weird to think that my parents were younger than I am right now when they took me here for the first time. Weird.
Any guesses?!!
